Formed in 2011, the ORHL is an Independent Rep Hockey League offering an alternative development model to the traditional Rep programs offered in the OMHA, Alliance or GTHL organizations.
There are no artificial boundaries in the ORHL. Players are not forced to play in a particular market, or for a particular coach based solely on where their family resides.
The competition schedule features a weekend only league (Friday-Sunday) leaving weeknights open for training. This approach also allows children to prioritize education and participate in other activities outside of hockey. There are no weeknight drives through a snow storm to Orangeville for a 6 pm hockey game.
This season there are over 80 teams participating in the ORHL at various age groups from centers such as Halton, Milton, Mississauga, Hamilton, Cambridge, Kitchener and London.
To make planning easier for families, the ORHL also features jamboree style events where all of the teams in a division will congregate in one location on a weekend to play 4 league games each.
The league also allows each team to customize their own schedule so that they can prioritize the skill development of their players as well as provide families with the opportunity to have a life outside of minor hockey.
The ORHL season concludes with a year end event in March with all teams attending to determine a league champion.
